The City has been cited several times by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality
(TCEQ) for noncompliance with state regulations regarding the City's wastewater system.
To determine the exact problems, the City Council ordered an assessment of the system.
Utility Support Systems (USS), which is operating and managing the water and wastewater
systems, conducted the review and presented its report to the City Council. What it found is
that many major repairs are needed, and are needed now.
The problems identified by USS range from rebuilding electrical panels at the lift stations,
installing new pumps, dredging out the lagoons and ponds to fixing hydrogen sulfide issues at a
USS presented solutions for the problems. The City Council will review and prioritize the work
The City Council will also search for funding to help with costs. One source of money is the
Community Development Block Grant which the City was recently awarded. This money will be
used for projects on the lift stations.
USS is also working on bringing the system into compliance with TCEQ regulations with the
goal to avoid fines being issued by TCEQ against the City.
