James M. Grant was the definition of a servant leader who cared deeply for our community. He never wavered from his civic duty as he served as a two-time Mayor and Volunteer Firefighter. Even when he did not serve in official capacities with the city, he was an ever present attendee at city council meetings, boards and committee meetings, and community events.

James passed away in January 2022 but left behind a legacy of service and duty to our city. In honor of Mr. Grant, on September 13th, 2021, the Bartlett City Council formally established the James M. Grant Annual Citizen of the Year and Employee of the Year Awards.

Serving as Mayor in our community requires occupying roles of citizen leader and municipal administrator of city affairs. In recognition of this dual role, both the Citizen and Employee of the Year Awards are distinguished with his namesake.
